June 02, 2025

JACKSON, Ky. - Highway Dept District #10 – Drivers who use the Kentucky River bridge on KY 52 in Estill County will need to find an alternate route on Tuesday, June 10. The bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. for an inspection.
No signed detour will be posted, but drivers can use KY 499 (the Joseph Proctor Bypass) and KY 89 to bypass the closure. Barricades will be in place to block traffic on the bridge while the inspection takes place.
In case of inclement weather, the closure will be postponed until the following day.
The bridge is located on KY 52 at milepoint 7.5 at the south end of Main Street in Irvine. KY 89 traffic is also routed on the span. It was built in 1940, and was last painted and redecked in 2022. The span carries nearly 12,000 vehicles per day and serves as an iconic signature gateway to downtown Irvine.
