John David Sipple

April 02, 2024

John David Sipple, son of Elizabeth Mattocks Sipple and James Best Sipple, was born on January 20, 1952 in Lexington, Kentucky, and passed away at his residence in Beattyville, Kentucky, on March 30, 2024. A former contractor, logger, oil and gas well inspector for the State of Kentucky, and maintenance supervisor, JD retired from the Lee County School District in 2016. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. John David was known for his sense of humor and rhyming odes he wrote to people, and his friends nicknamed him “The Big Kid.” JD loved the outdoors, working with the Three Forks Historical Center—where he served on the Board—and Massey Ferguson tractors. Because of his long white beard, JD was known to many as Santa Clause, and he enjoyed dressing up and making everyone believe in the spirit of Christmas. Most recently, he greatly enjoyed and was proud to be a Papaw to grandson Joah. He is survived by his former wife, Geraldine Sipple of Georgetown, Kentucky, and their children: daughter, Savannah (Ashley) Sipple-McGraw of Lexington, Kentucky; and son, Jericho (Danielle) Sipple of Georgetown, Kentucky. He is also survived by grandson, Joah David Sipple of Georgetown, Kentucky; one brother, Jim (Alice) Sipple of Beattyville, Kentucky; one nephew, CJ (Corry) Sipple of Beattyville, Kentucky, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephews Stephen Sipple and James Sipple. A memorial service will be announced soon. Memorial at LC Shriner’s Building, April 20th, 1-5pm. Newnam in charge of arrangements.
