BEREA, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) – A hiker fell off a cliff and spent an entire night in the severe cold before being rescued.
Officials say a group of hikers heard a woman calling for help and found her at the bottom of a cliff at The Pinnacles Monday morning. They covered her with blankets until the rescue crews could arrive. The woman said she had fallen around 6:00 p.m. Sunday. She was not found until 7:30 a.m. Monday. Berea Fire Battalion Chief Doug Sandlin said he “actually thought it might have been a hoax at first. Didn’t think anybody would be out hiking in weather like this.” Rescue crews were able to carry the woman out and drive her to an ambulance. Officials say the woman has a few broken bones and was taken to a hospital. Jacob Pierce, who helped find the hiker, said, “I found her gloves next to a big rock. Seems like she had been trying to climb on this big rock and slipped and fell down. Wasn’t too big. Maybe 50 feet.” The woman’s name has not been released.
