Red River Gorge, Ky. — Search and rescue crews from Lee, Powell, and Wolfe Counties joined forces Tuesday to help two hikers who became stranded near Courthouse Rock.
According to Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team (WCSART) social media, a 911 call came in from a woman reporting she was stuck on a cliff ledge alongside a man she had been hiking with. Crews quickly mobilized after receiving the distress call.
It is reported that she was stuck on a cliff ledge, but further investigation showed that the duo was lost, off trail, scrambled down about 10 feet, and were unable to climb up.
Responders from the three counties worked together to locate the hikers and bring them back to safety. No injuries were reported.
Rescue officials praised the teamwork and coordination among the county crews, while also reminding visitors to stay on marked trails and plan ahead before venturing into the Gorge.
